The Story
How David Got Here
David Douglas is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, from a family that has produced three generations of boxing champions. He began competing at age 10, weighing 70 lbs, trained by his father Frankie Douglas — a former Golden Gloves champion — and Kenny Loehr, a USA Team coach.
In the Army's 101st Airborne / Air Assault Infantry Division he continued boxing under Olympic coach Pat Nappi, earning spots on the All-Army and USA teams. He later moved to Texas and fought professionally under Texas legend 'Papa' Joe Barrientes and World Champion Hall-of-Famer Curtis Cokes.
Guy Mezger introduced David to mixed martial arts in the mid-90s, and he has since helped prepare fighters for Golden Gloves, the UFC, PRIDE, KOTC, and other events. He founded the Boxing Fitness Program at the Cooper Fitness Center, and when he's not coaching he serves as a Texas State licensed Boxing/MMA referee and judge. Thirty-five years of fighting and training experience, delivered one round at a time.
Favorite class to teach: Mitt rounds — where technique becomes timing.
